1959年，采访罗素的BBC记者说：“罗素伯爵，假设这段录像就如《死海古卷》一样，在一千年以后被我们的后代看到。有关您的一生，以及在此生所学到的东西中，你觉得有什么值得和未来那一代人分享的吗？”
罗素说了以下的话：
“I should like to say two things, one intellectual and one moral. The intellectual thing I should want to say to them is this:
When
 you are studying any matter, or considering any philosophy, ask 
yourself only what are the facts and what is the truth that the facts 
bear out.
Never let yourself be diverted either by what you wish to 
believe, or by what you think would have beneficent social effects if it
 were believed.
But look only, and solely, at what are the facts. That is the intellectual thing that I should wish to say.
The moral thing I should wish to say to them is very simple. I should say love is wise, hatred is foolish.
In
 this world which is getting more and more closely interconnected, we 
have to learn to tolerate each other. We have to learn to put up with 
the fact that some people say things that we don’t like.
We can only 
live together in that way and if we are to live together and not die 
together, we must learn a kind of charity and a kind of tolerance which 
is absolutely vital to the continuation of human life on this planet.”
   这位记者，我觉得他太自以为是了，太把罗素当根葱了。但罗素很有自知之明，他没有把自己当成“上帝”，他对智慧和道德作了解释。关于“智慧”，他说得很明白，就是间接地否定了上帝，这个值得肯定。而关于道德，他——我觉得——仍然没有摆脱《圣经》的影响，大说“爱”和“包容”、“仁爱”和“宽容”。这不是道德，不是《道德经》，而是《圣经》。如果按照罗素的说法去做，世界不会再有一千年了。因为按照《圣经》的旨意，上帝和撒旦是会永远战斗下去的。
