2025年7月11号，上午11点，爱玛出现在离伦敦80多公里的牛津大学城。
爱玛走进一家叫哥伦比亚的咖啡馆。店里人不多，学校还在放暑假。
爱玛要了一杯卡布奇诺和一小块巧克力蛋糕，找了个靠窗的位置坐下，
咖啡很香，蛋糕很软，但爱玛不太喜欢黑色的咖啡杯，觉得有些沉重。
爱玛翻看着Kathy Reichs的新书《骨之密码》，眼睛余光留心着窗外。
爱玛抿了一口咖啡，眼睛停留在书上，停留在文字上，心却飘走了。
爱玛感觉苏菲此刻就坐在自己的对面，细而冷的眉，深褐色像猫一样的眼睛，
峻峭的鼻骨，薄如雪的唇。爱玛还想起摩尔教授，想起丧失部分记忆的马修。
十几秒钟，就把过去四年的经历，快放了一遍，然后又一遍。
爱玛感觉屁股和大腿又胖了点，才坐了十分钟，就感觉裤子发紧。
不过瞬间这些感觉都消失了，爱玛的注意力集中在一个女人身上，
虽然爱玛仍然低着头，眼睛仍然盯着木桌上的书。
走进来的是一个亚洲女人，爱玛知道她是台湾人，姓周，35岁，助教。
周女士在街对面的科研楼工作，主要研究方向是心脏电生理。
而爱玛是在伦敦做脑神经研究的，手下有一名从法国来的博士生，叫阿瑟。
因为马斯克的Neuralink公司从2020年6月开始，用猪和猴的大脑进行人机对接(BCI)实验, 
并引起了神经科学世界的震动，也使得BCI技术成为全球研究的热点。
爱玛在做一个叫“神经灰尘”的微米级别的细胞机器人项目，
这种微型机器人像灰尘一样附着在大脑神经网络上，收集和接受电信号。
爱玛还制作了一种能够模拟嗅觉细胞的机器人，并植入到自己的鼻腔里。
爱玛称之为“嗅尘”，它两端都有纤细的鞭毛，一端固定在鼻粘膜组织中，
一端伸入到鼻腔里收集空气中的分子嗅觉信息，整理后传入大脑或者外部计算机。
爱玛可以通过手机的APP来调节"嗅尘"的敏感度，还可以实时进行嗅觉信息的分析处理。
爱玛看到周女士在柜台点了东西，然后坐在距离自己侧面两三米的地方等着。
爱玛扫视周围，几乎没有变化，和自己刚进门的时候一样。
柜台后面三个人，咖啡店的经理，英俊的希腊人，两个服务生，一个丹麦女孩和一个本地女孩。
前面柜台出口处坐着两个谈生意的男人，像是房地产中介或是做贷款生意的。
他们后面是一位满头银发有些驼背的老奶奶。老奶奶后面是周女士。
爱玛这一侧，前面是一个50多岁教授模样的英国人。爱玛后面是一对中年夫妇，亚洲人。
店外还有几张桌子，坐着几个年轻人，像是学生或者是讲师。
爱玛突然发现在周女士后面的墙角还坐着一个人，他和周女士之间，隔了一张空桌。
爱玛很惊讶，因为自己进来时，很清楚地记得那个位置上没有人。
爱玛虽然只向角落扫了一眼，但明显感觉到那个男人已经有所觉察。
这个人是什么时候进来的？他桌子上有一杯咖啡，他什么时候买的？
爱玛此刻为自己的疏忽感到有些紧张。爱玛搅拌着咖啡，仔细回想。
爱玛估计那个男人是在店员过来送咖啡的时候，悄悄进来，并顺便跟店员要了一杯咖啡。
爱玛很快镇静下来，并对整个事情做了一个简短的分析。
苏菲昨晚交给自己的任务是尽力保护周女士。
苏菲说周女士身上有关于台湾核武器研发进展的最新情报。
周今天会在这个咖啡馆和中共的特工见面，而且很可能会把情报交给他们。
但台湾国情局已经盯上了周，并下令在她出卖情报前，除掉她。
爱玛意识到这间咖啡馆里有台湾间谍、中共特工、EPO特工，可能还有MI6和CIA的人。
爱玛觉得椅子很不舒服，屁股有些酸疼。
爱玛只是微胖，比苏菲丰满一些，但爱玛的手指仍然白皙纤细。
爱玛左手放在书上，右手伸进挎包去摸自己9毫米的Sig Sauer P320。
爱玛露在挎包外面的雪白胳膊却显得平静和无辜。
爱玛用左手把手机上“嗅尘”APP里的探测敏感度调到最高。
现在爱玛的鼻子比狗的鼻子还要灵敏几十倍。
这时，咖啡店的丹麦女孩端着一杯咖啡，微笑着从柜台侧面走出来。
爱玛从女孩的眼神中知道咖啡是给周女士的。
爱玛的手机震动了一下，“嗅尘”APP发出警告：发现放射性物质！
